Klangforum Wien / Enno Poppe

The congenial musicians from Austria have performed around 500 premieres over the years. Enno Poppe’s cycle of works »Speicher« (German for ‘warehouse’) was first performed in Donaueschingen in 2013, where it was the big attraction at the prestigious Festival for Contemporary Music.

The title – which could hardly be more suitable for Hamburg – is a reference to the composer’s classification system for musical ideas that have come to him over the years. Each of the six parts is subdivided, in turn, into six further parts – a system Enno Poppe uses to develop multiple references between the separate »Speicher« units. Ingenious!
