Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra / Kit Armstrong
Benefit Concert in Aid of Kiel’s Concert Hall
The Kieler Schloss (Kiel Castle) can look back on a rather turbulent history. Originally built in 1230, it underwent many changes over the centuries as a result of decay, fires and reconstruction. After the building was completely destroyed in 1944, the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein decided to build a cultural centre on the site, with a concert hall and recording studios, a restaurant, a library and rooms for the state archive and the adult education centre. Privately owned since 2003, there have been plans to renovate the concert hall for some years now. The future of the concert hall is still uncertain, which has prompted the city of Kiel’s General Music Director Georg Fritzsch to give a charity concert at the Elbphilharmonie together with the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra, starring Kit Armstrong as prominent solo pianist.
