Club or stage?
KALI Trio’s new album adeptly avoids any kind of pigeonholing. With »LOOM«, the three Swiss musicians have made a record that radically questions plenty of scenarios in their entirety and is thus firmly in the post-genre style. Using subtle repetitions and extended time frames, the tracks evoke the mechanics of trance music. Precise overlays, clearly played patterns, a diverse range of sounds and effects, and a never-before-heard audio force all reflect the highest craftsmanship. The focus is always on the song though, which develops in a process-like way, written, thought out and played as a collective. The spartan aesthetics underline this, sounding more like a club than a stage – performed with acoustic instruments. The overall effect is cinematic and hypnotic; a documentation through soundof an unfolding daydream.
Jazz at the Kulturcafé is a monthly event presenting the most promising upcoming artists in the jazz and singer-songwriter scene. It is the perfect experimental platform for musicians and bands from Hamburg and all over the country. The atmosphere is laid back – and admission is free!
