Experimental and open, coupled with enthusiasm and a stupendous technique: these are the hallmarks of American violinist Joshua Bell. Whether appearing incognito as a busker, or as the prototype of a violinist for a »virtual reality experience« on the PlayStation – this world-class musician regularly makes the headlines even outside the classical music world. After his acclaimed appearance with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in November 2017, he returns to the Elbphilharmonie with the top London ensemble this season and pulls out all the stops: as soloist in the overture by his composer friend Edgar Meyer, first performed in 2017, and as concertmaster of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Bizet’s First Symphony. Bell warms up in the first half, building up to top form after the interval with Tchaikovsky’s highly expressive Violin Concerto.
