In a crowded Teatro Real in Madrid at the end of the 1970s – the era of Franco’s dictatorship was just coming to an end – a young guitarist takes to the stage, sits down with just his guitar, and starts playing. The audience goes wild. Paco de Lucía plays encore after encore and is, from that day on, the star of the flamenco scene. For the first time ever, Andalusian folk music – which had previously only been played as entertainment in bodegas and small theatres – had gained the status of concert music. Paco de Lucía would go on to enjoy huge success with the sensational guitar trio with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. The Spanish guitarist José Luis Montón now dedicates a concert to de Lucía in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall, which also features the German guitar virtuoso Uwe Kropinski and flutist Michael Heupel.
