José González
José González is a true master of reduced tones: the singer, guitarist and songwriter from Göteborg needs little more than a guitar and his voice to produce unobtrusive melodies with an effect nothing short of hypnotic. His unmistakable trademarks are the typical minimalistic song structures and his calm and gentle vocal style.
Just like his cautiously deployed musical resources, González’s folk-influenced songwriting consists of only a handful of elements, from which he regularly conjure songs of great puristic beauty. These rare qualities have brought him an international reputation as a truly exceptional artist in our hectic times.
José González is open to new musical challenges, and on his last visit to Hamburg he joined forces with the collective »The String Theory« at the Laeiszhalle, where his low-key soundscapes encountered complex orchestral arrangements. This enthralling evening notwithstanding, it cannot be denied that González’s songs come out to best effect in an intimate setting, such as this solo recital in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.
