Jonas Kaufmann
Schubert / Mahler
Jonas Kaufmann is a dream of a singer, a »heroic tenor with a chocolate baritone core« – thus one critic after his last concert at the Elbphilharmonie. Moreover, Kaufmann possesses great stage presence and exceptional musicality. His recordings are so successful that he has ECHO prizes, Gramophone Awards and Diapasons d’Or piling up at home. With his last album, released in 2017, he fulfilled a long-held dream and sang both the tenor and the baritone part in Mahler’s symphonic »Das Lied von der Erde«. Very few voices are suited to a balancing act like this, but Jonas Kaufmann manages to pull off a show of vocal strength not only in the recording studio, but also in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.
