»Maximalism« is what the Canadian composer and pianist John Kameel Farah calls his composition technique: in his music, piano music, live-produced synthesizer and organ sounds are layered one on top of another – and are then superseded by fragments of Arab melodies. Minimalistic arpeggios rub shoulders here with elements from jazz, drum & bass and electronic music, as well as harmonies and rhythms from the Middle East. The starting point for John Farah’s first album »Time Sketches« was his 12-minute composition »Fantasia«, which he originally wrote to a commission from the Western Front Society in Vancouver, and performed in Berlin in summer 2016.
