Form and format

»He has every keyboard skill at his fingertips, but neither technique nor exaggerated sentiment pushes to the fore,« the magazine concerti wrote about Jan Lisiecki’s live recording of the five Beethoven piano concertos. The young pianist was only 24 when his recording was released in 2019 on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. Now he is coming to the Elbphilharmonie to play all five concertos. The Kammerakademie Potsdam under its chief conductor proves to be a like-minded partner – its primary goal is sensitive playing, something it shares with the Canadian-Polish pianist with his stunningly mature feeling for the works. The piano concerto is congenially framed by two Schubert symphonies – one of them the famous "Unfinished" Symphony.
