Hildegard Lernt Fliegen
»The Big Wig«
Andreas Schaerer is one of the most exciting figures in today’s Swiss jazz scene: together with his sextet Hildegard Lernt Fliegen, the vocal acrobat romps anarchically from one style to another. »The Big Wig« is Schaerer’s one-of-a-kind excursion into the orchestral realm.
Schaerer’s vocal adventures makes terms like scat and beatboxing pale into insignificance: his wealth of ideas surpasses even that of his teacher Bobby McFerrin. At breakneck speed he tells weird stories about murderers and drinkers, plays the diseur à la Kurt Weill, speaks a language of his own invention, blows the human trumpet or sings with the voice of a boy soprano.
His band Hildegard Lernt Fliegen accompanies him with an energy that sometimes swings and sometimes roars; like in the New Orleans carnival, the wind instruments groove along, while the rhythm section literally boils over.
For the first time, the off-the-wall musical world of this exceptional Swiss artist is expanded by his partners from Lucerne to create an exciting orchestral canvas.
