37-year-old Herbert Schuch is one of the secret stars of the German piano scene. He started studying with the legendary piano teacher Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the age of twelve, and he also received valuable input from the pianist Alfred Brendel. »Schuch can orchestrate on the piano – perfect mastery that manifests through musical content,« wrote the »Tagesspiegel« about him.

His debut CD, which features pieces by Schumann and Ravel, was picked as the prestigious Editor’s Choice in »Gramophone« magazine, and he also won the ECHO Klassik Award for his recording of Viktor Ullmann’s Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

In »Pianomania« Schuch plays a broad and diverse programme. In addition to Beethoven’s multi-faceted »Diabelli Variations« and Brahms’s highly virtuosic »Paganini Variations«, Schuch performs a variation piece by the contemporary composer Helmut Lachenmann (*1935), based on a waltz by Schubert.
