Heinrich Heine meets Georg Büchner
Campagnia di Punto / Ian Bostridge / Marina Galic
It leads me there, it leads me here
A compelling mixture: Robert Schumann’s music is set to Heinrich Heine’s texts in an explosive and unusual way. Excerpts from Georg Büchner’s »Woyzeck«, interpreted by Thalia Theater actress Marina Galic, bring the situation to a head. Ian Bostridge sings Schumann songs that reveal irritating musical moments. The sequence of the songs reproduces the course of the plot of Büchner’s drama. The singer is confronted with the actress as his alter ego. The main characters are accompanied by the ensemble Compagnia di Punto, which plays on instruments from the early 19th century – the period in which both Schumann and Büchner were active. An unusual, dramatic Heine/Büchner/Schumann evening, concept by composer Matthias Schlothfeldt.
