Mozart dances the mambo

Mozart in Cuba? That’s right! In the heart of Havana’s Old Town, there stands a statue of the great composer. When Sarah Willis, French horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic, saw the statue in 2017 while attending a masterclass, she was amazed and impressed in equal measure. But when you think about it, it’s perfect: Viennese classicism and the Cuban attitude to living share certain similarities when it comes to playful lightness, exuberant musicality and zest for life. Willis joined forces with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra to start the »Mozart y Mambo« project, which combines works by Mozart with traditional Cuban music.
