Handel: Alexander’s Feast
Concerto Köln / Das Alte Werk
Concerto Köln is one of the oldest world-class formations on the early music scene, and has won pretty much all the major classical music laurels, from a »Grammy« to the »Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik«. Among the trademarks of this ensemble, which runs itself along grass-roots principles, is its musical diversity, with a repertoire ranging from solo concertos and oratorios to opera. When music by Handel is on the programme, Concerto Köln forms an absolute dream-team together with British conductor Ivor Bolton, one of today’s top early music conductors.
Together with an all-star vocal line-up, including Hungary’s »baroque nightingale« Emőke Baráth, Ivor Bolton and Concerto Köln celebrate the power and beauty of music with splendid fanfares and choruses. Handel wrote his ode »Alexander’s Feast or The Power of Music« in 1736, and enjoyed great success with it in the London of his day.
