Along with Carlos Chavez, Silvestre Revueltas is known as one of the twentieth-century Mexican composers that injected new dynamism into the music of their native land. Revueltas’s music expresses Mexico’s soul – the street music, the festivals and markets, the landscapes, the history, and the ways and customs of its people. »I like all kinds of music,« Revueltas once said. Stravinsky may well have said the same – Revueltas’s score for the 1939 film »La Noche de los Mayas« is vaguely reminiscent of the Russian composer’s »Rite of Spring«. In the young Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra, a true expert of Latin American music takes to the podium for this Philharmonic Concert.
