Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra / Singer Pur / Kent Nagano
Hamburg International Music Festival
There are many visions of the hereafter as a utopia. But what awaits us on the other side? This question has preoccupied musicians and composers since time immemorial. In its concert programme, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra brings together a variety of musical answers from many different periods: medieval mysticism, the Catholic belief in the Resurrection and non-European elements are merged in the work of Olivier Messiaen, whose musical world enters into a dialogue with music from the 15th and 16th centuries by Ockeghem and Desprez. Richard Wagner, on the other hand, created his own religion with his art: in his »sacred festival drama« and »work bidding farewell to the world«, the hero Parsifal sets out in search of the Holy Grail. In the final event, he is looking for redemption.
