Social criticism to dance to
Guava, guacamole and a parrot inspired the naming of Guacáyo, according to the group themselves. This wild mix perfectly reflects the band-of-four’s diverse blend of genres, which sings about issues from feminism to environmental protection with bold indie pop. Musically and lyrically though, Guacáyo does not fit neatly into any pigeonhole; pop and reggae and hip-hop are all mixed in together to create an electrifying sound. Social criticism to dance to! In Hamburg, Guacáyo plays in big clubs like Knust, Docks or Grünspan. In 2019, the band was the support act on the European tour of the Australian breakthrough band Lime Cordiale, and performed at 3000 Grad and the Skandalös Festival. Last year, they went on their own tour, and the band also performed at the »Hope ’n’ Air« festival on the forecourt of the Elbphilharmonie. From there, it’s up and away and into the Recital Hall.
