Goldmund Quartett
Rising Stars
In the space of just a few years, the Goldmund Quartett has played its way into the top league of German string quartets. The four string players studied with members of the Alban Berg Quartet and attended master classes given by the Artemis Quartet and the Cherubini Quartet, and they also derived significant inspiration from big names such as Alfred Brendel. They have appeared at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Heidelberger Frühling, and in 2015 they were awarded a scholarship by the State of Bavaria. At »Rising Stars« they perform a programme of music from four different periods.
In addition to Haydn’s humorous and fresh D major quartet, the young musicians also play Mendelssohn’s profound F minor quartet, which is often seen as a requiem for the composer’s sister, who died at an early age. The Goldmund Quartett explores the exotic impressionism of Debussy’s sole string quartet, and they also give the first performance of a piece for quartet by the British-Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova (*1980).
