Giuseppe Verdi: Requiem
Lux aeterna
Of all the settings of the Requiem, Verdi’s is probably the most powerful – and apart from the Mozart version, without a doubt the best known. Inspired by the death of his friend Rossini, the great opera composer created a non-denominational work whose dramatic input is in no way smaller than that of his opera scores. At the same time, the fear of death makes way for images of solace and hope, to which Christoph Schoener, with his choir and the extended Orchester St. Michaelis, give musical form.
