Gewandhausorchester Leipzig / Andris Nelsons
Mozart / Tchaikovsky
The Leipzig Gewandhausorchester presents itself in Hamburg with its new principal conductor Andris Nelsons. And Nelsons wants to demonstrate his orchestra’s mettle: in the first half of the concert, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 gives them a chance to show their »classical« skills, while after the interval Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, his tragic last essay in the genre, calls for Russian pathos. An emotional roller-coaster, then – and a good opportunity to get to know this orchestra with its long tradition, and indeed the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall, from very different perspectives.
