Fischer / Mönkemeyer / Müller-Schott
Schubert / Martinů / Beethoven
Violinist Julia Fischer, viola player Nils Mönkemeyer and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott are all internationally celebrated soloists. The all-star trio now turn their attention to string trios from a period spanning two centuries. It is a genre that continues to stand somewhat in the shadow of the string quartet, and that despite the fact that – according to a famous quotation by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe – one can witness, in a trio, a profound and lively »conversation between three intelligent people«.
Fischer, Mönkemeyer and Müller-Schott begin their programme with Beethoven’s three String Trios, Op. 9. The composer once described the pieces as »my best works«. These are followed by Franz Schubert’s two String Trios as well as a trio by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů, which alternates between melancholy and dynamic virtuosity.
