The Elbphilharmonie is for everyone – especially the little ones. That is why a special day has been reserved for children and their families during the three-week-long Elbphilharmonie Opening Festival: on Family Day, children move into the Elbphilharmonie, exploring the new concert hall and taking part on an exciting musical journey.

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, resident orchestra of the Elbphilharmonie, invites you to experience what goes on behind the scenes in an open rehearsal. With 2,100 seats in the Grand Hall on offer, it may be difficult to decide where to sit: next to the doubles basses, near the booming timpanis behind the orchestra – or is it better way up at the top, where one has a good overview of everything?

At the same time in the Recital Hall: »You Can Play Drums!« Four percussionists from the Hamburg-based Elbtonal Percussion ensemble host an interactive concert for the whole family. Learn about the adventures of the cowboy »Billy the Kid« in the Recital Hall and the Kaistudios: with music by prizewinning composer Ennio Morricone, this is an event not to be missed. Also on offer: children’s concerts with Robert Metcalf and the Hungarian ensemble Briass in the Five, and a folk song sing-along concert with the NDR Chor.

In addition to the fixed concerts and workshops, plenty of other events run the whole day. From the Kaistudios to the Grand Hall, from the cellar all the way up to the roof terrace: on Family Day, every corner of the Elbphilharmonie is filled with music. Young ones and those young at heart are invited to listen and to take part in this colourful music programme. Everyone is welcome! Find out more about Family Day.
