The passion of Portugal

Fado is mainly associated with the Portuguese capital Lisbon, but it actually hails from the slightly more northerly city of Coimbra. The group Fado ao Centro brings the music genre and its own age-old traditions to audiences in Hamburg – the ensembles are purely male and the guitar is tuned differently than the usual Western custom. The origins of fado from Coimbra are entwined in myths.
