»Everybody’s Cage« / Documentary About John Cage

The many-part arpeggio of children’s voices from the playground across the street, the impatient honking of horns in the traffic jam a few blocks away, the whirr and clatter of wheels on cobblestones: in »Everybody’s Cage«, German filmmaker Sandra Trostel illustrates the ideas of the composer John Cage, whose favourite compositional device was chance. She accompanies the young pianist Francesco Tristano, meets Bruce Brubaker, the New York luminary of the US avant-garde scene, and joins German techno trio Brand Brauer Frick on the search for traces of Cage in the beats of today’s club music.
