Ensemble Modern Orchestra / Sir George Benjamin

In the days of Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler, it was the rule for composers to also work as conductors; only later did this become the exception. George Benjamin is one of a number of contemporary musicians that are successful in both roles, thus reviving an old tradition. In this concert he conducts works of his own as well as compositions by models and companions such as Boulez, Ligeti and Messiaen.
