Ensemble Intercontemporain / Matthias Pintscher: Music Box
Hamburg International Music Festival
»Now with the Piano Concerto I offer my aesthetic credo,« said György Ligeti, before setting out the aspiration of the piece: »To hold on to time, to suspend its disappearance, to confine it in the present moment – that is my primary goal in composition.« The Hungarian composer’s work is at the centre of the Ensemble intercontemporain’s guest performance in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall – and it is the thread that forms a link with »Gougalōn«, a work by Ligeti’s student Unsuk Chin, and to the musical self-portrait by Marko Nikodijevic.
