Ensemble arabesques

Legend has it that Ludwig van Beethoven wrote his famous Symphony No. 6 while listening to the calls of quails, nightingales and cuckoos. There is evidence that the composer went for long walks in nature, under the impressions of which he wrote the symphony. Beethoven later entitled the finished work »Pastoral Symphony or Memories of Country Life«. It is an appeal to human reason and creative power. The Ensemble arabesques commissioned the renowned Andreas N. Tarkmann to arrange it for a large wind ensemble. The unusual instrumentation allows the music to enter into dialogue with modernity and thus addresses themes such as international understanding, freedom and global cohesion.
