Elina Duni
»Songs of Love and Exile«
At the age of ten Elina Duni moved to Switzerland, but the singer with the »dark and supple soprano« (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) still retains the sound of her native Albania. She and her fellow band members are seen as pop musicians in Albania, but Duni herself describes her style as jazz, closely interwoven with the music of the Balkans. Folk music is a colourful mixture for Elina Duni. She sings Albanian in a wide variety of dialects: Mazedonian, Montenegran, Greek and Italian. In her new project »Songs of Love and Exile« she is supported by guitarist Rob Luft, who combines West African joie de vivre with English folk music and independent rock, and is one of the aspiring young artists of the London jazz scene.
