Persian Music Meets Contemporary Classical and Jazz
The soft melodies of the Iranian Duo Naqsh (Persian for »ornamentation«) are lyrical and enchanting. The Tehran-born musicians’ compositions are an intimate dialogue between the clarinet and the guitar. »It’s as if we were writing poems together«, says clarinettist Mona Matbou Riahi, describing their joint music-making. The internationally active Duo Naqsh gently and carefully blend Persian keys, ornaments and rhythms with contemporary chamber music and jazz sounds. The result is a deep, contemplative encounter between eastern and western musical traditions and a »perfect testament to the universality of music« (Chicago Jazz Magazine).
