Don Giovanni
Basle Chamber Orchestra / Erwin Schrott / Giovanni Antonini
He is charming, witty, elegant, and possesses a powerful but velvety voice that’s pretty much unparalleled. So it comes as no great surprise that Mozart’s Don Giovanni has become something of a hallmark role for Uruguayan bass-baritone Erwin Schrott. Mozart’s dubious hero – a grandiose seducer who conquers women’s hearts in the twinkling of an eye, but is punished for his lax morals in the end – is a challenge for any singer. Since he became famous overnight at the 1998 Operalia Competition, Erwin Schrott has been a regular guest in opera houses across Europe. At the Elbphilharmonie Schrott now has the British soprano Lucy Crowe at his side as a brilliant Donna Elvira.
