Devid Striesow Reads Günter Grass
A Concert Reading / Harbour Front Sounds
Günter Grass’s seminal novel »The Tin Drum« (1959) is a flawless work of literature – which makes producing a stage version all the more challenging. Hamburg percussionist Stefan Weinzierl’s idea is obvious and yet still unique: actor Devid Striesow reads selected scenes, atmospherically accompanied by Weinzierl – with the various percussion instruments occasionally taking more prominent, solo roles. Language and music narrate the life of Oskar Matzerath, who stops growing at the age of three and experiences the world of adults from what is apparently a child’s perspective. A life story – from birth in Danzig in 1924 to the end of the Second World War.
