Darker than Black

Poignant Love Songs Bursting with Heartache and Yearning
In the Renaissance period, people suffering from melancholy at least found solace in music. Like the famous lutenist John Dowland, who wrote bittersweet songs and instrumental pieces to combat gloomy thoughts. For her intimate chamber music programme »Darker than Black«, Viennese viola da gamba virtuoso and Elbphilharmonie Artist in Residence Eva Reiter has chosen works from the early 17th century as well as present-day pieces, producing a touching ode to the subject of melancholy – a Greek word meaning »black bile«.
