Concerts for Hamburg
NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Anna Vinnitskaya / Krzysztof Urbański
For the first concert as part of the »Concerts for Hamburg« series, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and its long-time partner Krzysztof Urbański have invited a Hamburg resident: the pianist Anna Vinnitskaya studied in Hamburg and, having been appointed as the youngest female professor of the piano ever, now teaches in the hanseatic city herself. She can be heard performing Dmitri Shostakovich’s popular Piano Concerto No. 2, which he wrote as a birthday present to his son. The concert continues with a real firecracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky: the Russian composer’s Fourth Symphony provides a deep insight into his emotional world.
In the wake of its overwhelming success in past years, a third season of the concert series aimed at newcomers will be put on in 2019: an hour of classical music in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie – no dress regulations, no rules of etiquette, just a relaxed atmosphere! This time the programme is not entirely composed of classical music: the NDR Bigband can be heard as part of the series for the first time.
