Concerts for Hamburg
NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Martin Fröst
»Let’s Go to America!« is the title of this concert dedicated to one of the most important classical composers from the other side of the Atlantic: Aaron Copland. His delightful Clarinet Concerto was originally written for jazz legend Benny Goodman; it’s played tonight by the Swedish clarinettist Martin Fröst, about whom the New York Times wrote: »There is something approaching the supernatural about his command of his instrument«. Copland is followed by Modest Mussorgsky’s »Pictures at an Exhibition« – an evergreen in concert halls across the world thanks to the figurative tonal language used by the composer to describe a painter-friend’s pictures.
