Concert for Manfred Eicher
featuring Joe Lovano, Avishai Cohen, Anouar Brahem, Tigran Hamasyan, Dave Holland, Gidon Kremer and other artists
Homage to a great producer
The list of people involved in the »Concert for Manfred Eicher« is as long as it is auspicious. The planning of the event was carried out in confidential cooperation between Eicher’s office and the Elbphilharmonie without the legendary producer from Munich getting wind of it. Manfred Eicher curated a wonderful »Reflektor« festival at the Elbphilharmonie nearly four years ago, and this concert at the end of September picks up the thread of this event that lasted several days, bringing together an unprecedented variety of musicians from the ECM cosmos to perform both improvised and notated music.
The evening celebrates in a comprehensive and intense experience the art of the moment for which the ECM label has stood for more than 50 years. Manfred Eicher has been awarded many important art prizes worldwide for his visionary work and his uncompromising aesthetic position, and the label he founded in 1969 sets standards to this day in terms of sound quality, repertoire and cover design. With the »Concert for Manfred Eicher«, the Elbphilharmonie honours one of the most important German artists of the last half-century.
