Soprano Claron McFadden and the pianist Alexander Melnikov had curated a programme specially for the Elbphilharmonie that challenged the established conceptions of a song recital. McFadden has regrettably been forced to cancel her appearance in this »NDR das neue werk« concert due to illness. In place of the song recital, Melnikov performs works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Schnittke in the second half of the concert – three of the most important Russian composers of the 20th century. Members of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra kick off the evening with George Crumb’s »Black Angels«: the string quartet presents the polarity of good versus evil. Extreme registers, intense sounds and the interplay between crystal glasses and unconventional musical instruments offer an illusion of a higher power.

Tickets retain their validity, however can also be refunded at the ticket shops where they were purchased.
