Chucho Valdés & Gonzalo Rubalcaba

The project »Trance« brings together two of the leading figures of the Cuban jazz piano tradition: doyen Chucho Valdes and the virtuoso Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Valdes, who was born in 1941, became known as the founder of the Afro-Cuban jazz rock band Irakere; he blends post-bop improvisations with ritualistic percussion and European classical music. Rubalcaba, who grew up with the music of Valdes, has played with Charlie Hayden and combines classical music with Cuban genres like Bolero and Son. An absorbing musical dialogue between two old friends.
