Christian Löffler, Mohna & Ensemble
Spiegel Online called his debut album »A Forest« a »classic of contemplative house«. Christian Löffler has now released his second album »Mare«, which was produced on the remote Darß peninsula in northern Germany. The electronic music artist and guest singer Mohna are accompanied by a Dublin-based string quartet headed by Éna Brennan, aka Dowry, in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.
Field recordings meet synthesizer sounds, while his arsenal of instruments also includes self-modified synthesizers, a marimba and a zither. In Löffler’s music, the roar of the surf, the cries of passing birds, the rustling of leaves and the splatter of rain become an unmediated part of the soundscape. On »Mare«, techno tracks are placed alongside piano pieces and string elements that sound almost classical. Support is provided by singer Mohna, who lends her unique voice to a number of songs on the album.
