Chamber Music Recital / Symphoniker Hamburg
Mozart / Webern / Borodin (substitute date)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dedicated his String Quartet No. 15 in D minor to no lesser person than his friend Joseph Haydn. Full of creative ideas and nods to his fellow composer, the only minor-key work in the six »Haydn quartets« is dark, almost sepulchral in tone, the sombre mood relieved only by the irresistible charm of the andante. Mozart also made use here, for example, in the third movement, of his own studies of Baroque composer Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
