In pianist Catalina Hrubaru’s hands, the traditional piano concert becomes a tender, thoughtful and spontaneous affair. Rather than a stern concert routine, the Romanian artist puts on a presented programme that also features singing, readings and poems.
With works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Liszt, Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel and Frédéric Chopin, the music certainly does not come up short. But it’s impossible to say before the concert what exactly the audience can expect – Catalina Hrubaru likes to be guided by spur-of-the-moment inspiration and throw in a few surprises.
