Johann Sebastian Bach’s »St John Passion« is famous for its big choruses and complex orchestral arrangement. But it can also be done differently, as proven by the Icelandic tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson: as the only singer, he takes on all the main roles in the Passion, accompanied only by the harpsichord, organ and percussion, while the chorales – inspired by the original performance practice – are sung with the audience. As a result, Bach’s masterpiece becomes an intense and captivating chamber music work that challenges traditional listening habits and presents something we thought we knew in a completely new light.
Scores and texts will be handed out befor the concert.
