Italian musician Alessandro Cortini senses the aura of electronic instruments. Be it a multitrack cassette recorder or an analogue synthesizer, he coaxes the individual character out of every device that produces sound. Bands like Muse and particularly Nine Inch Nails place their trust in Cortini’s drone sounds. His latest solo project »Volume Massimo« combines melodious electronic sounds with impressive noise architecture.

As a solo artist, Alessandro Cortini tends to be found in the wondrous and ethereal regions of the great atlas of music. But the sounds he produces are so much in demand that they shine the brightest of spotlights on these regions as well. Whether as a composer of soundtracks for computer games, as the co-producer of bands like Muse and Nine Inch Nails, or even for Christina Aguilera – Cortini literally has his fingers in every pie. Sometimes the listener is pleasantly reminded of 80s pop songs, then he finds himself standing in complete isolation between the big industrial pillars. Strange and exciting eclecticism between rock, pop and contemporary electronic music.
