Boulanger Trio

On the occasion of Wolfgang Rihm’s 70th birthday

In spring 2022, Wolfgang Rihm – and with him the music world – celebrated his 70th birthday. The three musicians of the Boulanger Trio now join in the celebrations: in their birthday concert in honour of the composer, they weave Robert Schumann’s rarely performed »Fantasiestücke« with Wolfgang Rihm’s »Attempts for Piano Trio«. In these works Rihm plays skilfully with gestures and almost-quotations that remind the listener of Schumann. In a letter, Rihm refers to the Boulanger Trio, saying: »To be interpreted in this way is surely a dream for every composer«.
