Bringing some »harmony« into disharmonious times – the 2019 Blue Note debut album of the versatile guitarist Bill Frisell promises to do just that. He is performing with his new, genre-transcending quartet, whose members include the singer Petra Haden – daughter of the legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden, one of Frisell’s mentors – the cellist Hank Robertson and the multi-instrumentalist Luke Bergman. All three musicians also use their voices to help create the magical, other-worldly harmony.
»When I’m with my group, we’re listening to each other, we’re interacting with each other and there’s so much trust involved,« Frisell explains. »That allows us to take chances and learn from each other. Where there is harmony, there is also inevitably dissonance. And sometimes there is conflict, but we resolve it – through the music. It’s a perfect model for our interaction with each other.«
