Batiashvili / Capuçon / Thibaudet
Shostakovich / Mendelssohn / Ravel
It doesn’t go without saying that three excellent soloists will automatically produce an outstanding trio. But Lisa Batiashvili, Gautier Capuçon and Jean-Yves Thibaudet merge into a perfect piano trio: Capuçon’s powerful cello sound blends with the brilliant yet warm tone of the Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili, while Jean-Yves Thibaudet accompanies them both with ample finesse and a balanced touch. Their programme with Mendelssohn’s unusually dramatic TrioNno. 2, Shostakovich’s Opus 8, written at the age of only 17, and Ravel’s sophisticated sole essay in the piano trio genre offers each musician plenty of opportunity to display the full breadth of his or her art.
