Baltic Sea Philharmonic / Kristjan Järvi
Rautavaara / Järvi / Pärt
The fascination of the north: at their 2017 debut at the Elbphilharmonie, Kristjan Järvi and his newly-founded Baltic Sea Philharmonic played to a delighted audience. The orchestra consists of young musicians from the entire Baltic region, from Norway to Russia, and garnered praise for its energetic playing. In its new programme »Midnight Sun«, the orchestra turns its attention to the magical and mystic power of Nordic natural phenomena such as the midnight sun or the northern lights, performing works by Nordic composers like Arvo Pärt, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Pēteris Vasks. The young musicians have no need of music stands – they play everything from memory!
