Bachs Christmas Oratorio is as much a part of the festive season today as mulled wine and fir branches, an entertaining depiction of the Christmas story with masterful music. The fact that Bach left us this full-length masterpiece is a special gift that the St. Thomas cantor, who was always working under deadline pressure, was only able to realise with diligence and intelligence.
