António Zambujo
Elbphilharmonie Summer
Hardly any music is as closely linked to a nation’s soul as the Portuguese fado. »Saudade«, which the fado expresses in music, is a conglomeration of feelings hundreds of years old, a melange of love lost, separation and yearning, patriotic pride and tragic dignity. António Zambujo pays tribute to the ancient tradition of this music, but lends it a modern touch all his own. Born in 1975, the award-winning musician combines fado with the »cante Alentejano« from his home in the south of Portugal, and also with Brazilian pop music, e.g. by Caetano Veloso. Zambujo’s intimate voice, a clear and precise tenor, lives from dramatic delays and elegant, ornate arabesques.
