Alongside the Egyptian Mohamed Abozekry and doyen Rabih Abou-Khalil from the Lebanon, Tunesian musician Anouar Brahem is one of the great virtuosi on the short-necked lute known as the oud, which is omnipresent in modern Arabic music. On his albums, Brahem, who was born in Tunis in 1957, places the erstwhile accompanying instrument at the centre of a music that takes its inspiration from many different sources, among them Arabic classical music, folk traditions and jazz.

For tonight’s concert in Manfred Eicher’s »Reflektor« festival, Anouar Brahem joins forces again with his old musical companions, pianist François Couturier, Klaus Gesing (bass clarinet) and Björn Meyer (bass). They are accompanied by the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra from Estonia: the audience can look forward to an exquisite evening of weightless rapture and grounded presence.
