Musical legend

»Jesus Christ Superstar«, »Evita«, »The Phantom of the Opera« and »Cats« – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals have been incredibly successful around the world. As a contemporary composer, the way he works with a variety of musical styles is unique, and he realises this versatility beyond Broadway and the West End. One great example of this is the Requiem he composed in 1985 in memory of his father William Lloyd, for which he won a Grammy in the »Best Contemporary Classical Composition« category. Between excitement, despair and meditation, grand choral movements are juxtaposed with virtuosic timpani solos, and melodious gestures with march-like passages. As in his musicals, Lloyd Webber also produces overwhelming emotions in his consoling Latin mass.
